Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation developed as a result of civic minded citizens who wanted to coordinate recreation activities throughout the County and manage the rapid growth of the programs for the benefit of county citizens.As a result Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation was formed and came into existence on May 11, 1946. Ten days later the organization dedicated its first park in East Millcreek, today over 50 years later -- 70 plus parks, and over 20 recreation facilities we are still "Improving Lives Through People, Parks and Play."

Central City Recreation Center Opens After Major Rennovation

Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon along with Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker will officially re-open the Central City Recreation Center on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. The Central City Recreation Center located at 615 South 300 East, Salt Lake City has undergone a $3 million dollar renovation, courtesy of the Zoo, Arts and Parks Tax.

County Wide Men's Basketball Leagues Available  

Salt Lake County offers year-round Adult Men's Basketballbball teamin many different skill levels in gyms throughout the valley.   JL Sorenson Recreation Center Construction Underway

Salt Lake County has broken ground for the new 110,000 Invitesquare foot J.L. Sorenson Recreation Center in Herriman. The new center will serve the southwest portion of Salt Lake County providing new recreation opportunities for residents in the cities of Bluffdale, Herriman, and Riverton.
